SO, we made it safe and sound to my reassignment in BEAUTIFUL Portland Oregon! Flights were straight up WACK because we started at the SLC airport who flew us to Texas and then to Oregon so tons of flying, mis amigos. Anyway we made it here and it's seriously cool. Each person we've met has been really nice and boy howdy its HIPPIEVILLE down here! We don't go out too much, but when we do the walks are super nice, there are lots of Chinese markets, it's MAD green, and the air is so clean.
All excitement aside, it's been an adjustment getting used to what still feels like worlds away from my last mission. Taiwan still has my heart, and it is still really wild moving from place to place. Something that's been helping that adjustment is... We've got a Mandarin Chinese group! It consists of a few families from Mainland China and a few from my sweet Taiwan❤ Looks like I'll get to practice Chinese after all! I've got an awesome companion who got reassigned from New Zealand speaking Mandarin too, and we so look forward to getting in some much needed language practice.
Other than that, we've actually been really busy with service (both with the salvation army and online), and that's been keeping us sane. Service is the center of our belief, and when we show others that their needs come before ours, the world really is a better place. Helping others hands on, or listening to them if they need someone to talk to, makes a massive difference in such an uncertain time.
Again, it is kind of a different world in Lake Oswego, but I feel a lot of peace here! Although I still miss my home in Utah and my home in Taiwan, God is there and he knows what we're feeling ALL the time! Do we appreciate that enough?
I love you ALL and know that wherever you are, whatever you're going through, and whatever your position or belief is, you have a purpose here.
